Academic Range, Quality, and Support

The University of Minnesota is a top public research university with 150 majors across many colleges and schools. The Chinese Flagship program is part of the College of Liberal Arts, but also enrolls students from the Carlson School of Management, College of Science and Engineering, College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences, College of Biological Sciences, College of Education & Human Development, and more.

The Department of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies (AMES), which houses the Chinese Flagship program, offers rigorous language instruction at all levels, as well as dynamic and innovative courses in Chinese culture, history, literature, film, religion, and more taught by established scholars. Metropolitan Area and Flourishing Local Chinese Communities

The University of Minnesota is located at the heart of the metropolitan Twin Cities area with vibrant, local Chinese-speaking communities. The University hosts thousands of international students who are native speakers of Chinese, as well as a variety of Chinese-speaking student organizations. The Twin Cities and surrounding areas are home to a growing number of Chinese immersion schools and K-12 programs. Our program has an ideal local environment for exposure to Chinese language and culture, and for the promotion of intercultural exchange.
